Connecting with and improving your local community

www.streetlife.com - Streetlife is a free website for neighbours to share news, views, recommendations and resources. Streetlife creates online forums based around local areas. you can sign up for free with your postcode and connect with others who live in the same area.

www.fixmystreet.com - With FixMyStreet you can report a problem on your street or in your area (e.g. graffiti, broken paving, fly-tipping etc) and the site reports it automatically to the people responsible for dealing with the problem.

www.freecycle.org - Freecycle can help you if you have something you want to give away or if you want to to give a new home to unwanted items that neighbours are giving away.

www.campaigncentral.org.uk - This website has information, tools and resources that can help you if you want to organise a campaign


Local democracy

http://mapit.mysociety.org/ - Put your postcode into this website and it will tell you all of the administrative authorities that your postcode comes under from the parliamentary constituency to the London Assembly Constituency and the Ward

Democracy - rights, responsibilities and government accountability

www.whatdotheyknow.com - Under the Freedom of Information Act (2000), public bodies are required to respond to requests for recorded information. Through this website you can formulate a request under the Freedom of Information act and send it to the right contact in the right department at the local authority

www.theyworkforyou.com - A large section of the UK population do not know the name of their MP, let alone how they voted on key issues or what they are saying in their name. This website helps you to find your local MP see how they voted on particular issues, find out about speeches thy have made and appearances in parliament.

www.writetothem.com- Visit the homepage, input your postcode, and it will show you everyone who represents you, from your local councillors up to your MEPs. What’s more, you can then write them a message, simply and quickly.

www.mycommunity.org.uk - This site provides information and guidance on your rights under the Localism Act. Find out about Neighbourhood Planning, Shaping local Services, Community Asset Transfer and more.


Getting involved and giving

www.do-it.org.uk - The Do-It website is a national database for volunteering. you can find out about a range of voluunteering opportunities in your local area. If you would like more help with volunteering you can speak to a member of our volunteering services team or visit our drop-in centre Community Southwark Volunteering Advice Drop-ins

www.localgiving.com - Local Giving enables you to find charities and community groups in your local area that you can donate to.

HOurBank - HOurBank is based at Pecan in peckham and is a timebank that helps people to share skills and help eachother. If you want to connect with people in your community and Share your skills HOurBank can help.
