Borough and Bankside CAN Meeting

Green Amidst the Grey

Ok so admittedly I've tried to get a bit poetic with the headline of the latest Borough and Bankside CAN meeting but for good reason... There is a common misconception (formerly held even by myself) that the north of the borough is all offices, tower blocks and Pret a Mangers, and is, therefore, starved of greenery. This may well be true to some degree but it doesn't mean that there hasn't been a fightback in recent years to protect some of the hidden and unique green spaces that are dotted about Borough and Bankside.

Redcross Garden

Leading the charge is the Bankside Open Spaces Trust, who have taken in the mantle of encouraging the local community to take responsibility of some of these spaces. At this CAN meeting we will be hearing from some local people who have answered the challenge and have set up their own projects. How did they go about it? What support did they receive? And what were the challenges?

We also want to have a broader discussion about how we can link up the various activities that are going on, how we can support more residents to get involved, and how we can support each other to develop better relationships.

Sound good? Come along to find out what is happening in the Borough and Bankside area and how you can get involved!
