Home Truths at the DIY Space

Rainbow Collective & Radical Housing Network present an event exposing the causes of the housing crisis + debunking the myths of immigration and homelessness + learning from our victories

Join us for an afternoon of films, discussion spoken word, and music. Bringing together artists and activists from variety of campaigns.

Building a community of resistance to overcoming division to fight displacement, dispossession and privatisation.

This event is a fundraiser for the People's Inquiry project at Grenfell which is the development of a public archive of accounts and testimonies of the state crimes. It exists to support the processes of justice, not to undermine them and should have the support of reputable charities. There will also be youth element of the project which will focus on providing a platform for young voices and training them to develop their YouTube channel and their own voice. This project is being run by Dan Renwick the director of 'Failed By The State...'

Screenings will include Failed By The State: The Struggle In the Shadow of Grenfell followed by Q&A with Daniel Renwick. He will also do a presentation on the People Inquiry project.

Cracks In The System preview, Ledbury Estate is only a few minutes away from the DIY Space. The members at the DIY Space supported the protests at the Ledbury Estate. This documentary looks at the struggles the community have faced since the summer of 2017.

Robin Hood Gardens films - a short film made by a resident of Robin Hood before it was demolished followed by The Invisible Streets - a short film made whilst and after the demolition of Robin Hood Gardens.

Vauxhall Dragon - a short animation made by young people in Vauxhall & Ledbury Estate. The animation was inspired by the real life story of one the students grandma who at the time was being evicted from her home.

Talks and Panels - discussions will include guests and campaign groups from -

Save Cressingham, Ledbury Action Group, Aylesbury Estate, Elephant & Castle shopping centre campaign, Anthony Iles from Tarling West Estate, Central Hill, Dr Paul Watson, Southwark Notes. Broadwater Farm. Many more to be confirmed

Poetry & Music

Potent Whisper, Icykal, Sanah Ahsan, Sashan Flanders, Iviee Mercutio, Liz Ward, Danny Platinum, John Pandit DJ set with Visuals by Rainbow Collective. Many more artists to be confirmed.

How to get to DIY Space

Train:

South Bermondsey is 0.6 miles/10 minutes walk. National Rail services to London Bridge run every 15 minutes.
Queens Road Peckham is 0.9 miles/15 minutes walk . London Overground services to either Highbury & Islington or Clapham Junction run every 15 minutes.
Elephant & Castle London Underground Station is 2.5 miles/45 minutes walk or a short bus ride along Old Kent Road. Both the Northern and Bakerloo lines serve this station.
Elephant & Castle National Rail Station is 2.5 miles/45 minutes walk or a short bus ride along Old Kent Road.
Canada Water station is 1.5 miles/30 minutes walk or 15 minutes on the P12 bus. The Jubilee line and London Overground serve this station, with the Jubilee Night Tube running on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Bus:

The Old Kent Road/Ilderton Road stops, by the big Aldi on the Old Kent Road, are the nearest bus stops with frequent services to and from DSFL. These are the buses that run:
21 (Lewisham to Newington Green, runs til midnight)
53 (Plumstead to Whitehall, runs 24 hours a day – stops at Elephant & Castle station)
172 (Brockley Rise to St Paul’s, runs til 11.30 – stops at Elephant & Castle station)
453 (Deptford Bridge to Marylebone, runs 24 hours a day – stops at Elephant & Castle station)
N21 (Charing Cross to Bexleyheath, night service)
P12 (Surrey Quays to Brockley Rise, runs til midnight- stops at South Bermondsey and Queens Road Peckham stations)

We are also a short bus ride or walk away from New Cross Gate station and bus garage.
