The Cultural and Creative Industries, and Health and Wellbeing
Peckham Levels are hosting the meeting in their newly completed public areas; a standing promise since they came along to the February 2017 CAN meeting to talk to people about their plans.
Since that meeting the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Arts, Health and Well-being's inquiry report "Creative Health" has been published; which will provide a useful focus for our conversations. Peckham Levels will introduce us all to their fabulous new space, and talk about the social benefit aspects that are being realised; and South London Gallery are expected to join us to talk about a couple of initiatives:
- A look at thePeckham Experiment and its relevance today, some 70 to 80 years on;
- An Oral History programme focused upon the unrecorded personal histories of people in Peckham particularly focused upon heritage; much lost in the current state of Rye Lane & the High Street and so even more important to link people and their places together.
This should spark some interesting conversations; and inspire ideas on how to better link such activities together, create new opportunities that involve and engage Peckham's diverse communities, as well as a better understanding of the importance to wellbeing of "quality of life" activities.
