We hope to organise and take part in a number of events in 2017 and are holding a campaign meeting on Tuesday 17th January to start planning for these. As you will know there are going to be several elections across Europe which will continue to place the refugee and migration crisis centre stage. The anti-refugee response by many politicians and much of the media to the horrific events in Berlin last month makes the work of supporting and showing solidarity with refugees and migrants more important than ever.
The meeting on 17th January is open to everyone and will be from 6-8pm at the St Giles Centre, 81 Camberwell Church St, London SE5 8RB
The main activities we will be discussing are:
* March 18 2017, United Nations Anti-Racism Day. National demonstration Central London hosted by Stand Up To Racism - We hope to help organise a Southwark contingent for the march.
* National Refugee Week 17th-25th June. We would like to organise a number of events during this week, including a half-day conference, outdoor community events, film and spoken word nights, art/photography exhibitions, fundraising activities etc.
* Other suggestions for local activities
If you would like to help with any of these or just want to find out more about the work of Southwark Refugee Response and the local refugee support groups please come along to the meeting.
Our Citizens of the World - Refugee Film Night last month was very well supported with over 85 people coming along and £410 collected for the three main refugee support organisations in Southwark.
Our website is http://www.southwark-refugee-crisis.org.uk/ We are in the process of updating the website. It also has details of how to donate to the local refugee support groups.
Best wishes and season's greetings from Southwark Refugee Response
